Özet: In this paper, we will try to examine deeply that despite the index or index numbers are directly involved with mathematical calculations they are a statistical measure which shows the changes of a variable or a group of variables within time or place (region) (Yoğurtçugil , 1977). The index is commonly used in topics involved with Management, Economics, nevertheless it is used in other fields too; with indexes it is possible to make comparisons of price or quantity (amount) which are indispensable concepts of economic life and to watch the development of production or prices within time. Apart from measuring the changes in prices, production and living levels, comparing the IQs of students for different years or different regions can also be made with indexes. For example, how that the prices of some goods are increased while prices of some are decreased for making meaningful comparisons because of the changebility in the purchasing power of money, we will show that it is required to know the indexes for this examination.
