Özet: Unemployment is one of the fundamental problems of both developing and developed nations and it causes significant consequences from economic, psychological and social points. Similar to other regions in the world, unemployment constitutes an important issue in the province of Sakarya which has a significant place in Turkish economy. This study aims to put forward causes and effects of unemployment in Sakarya. Survey findings of the research for this purpose reveal that unemployment in Sakarya province is mainly caused by demand side reasons such as lack of job creation, low wages and extensive unregistered work practices. The most significant effect of unemployment in Sakarya has been identified as economic problems and they are followed by psychological and social issues
