Özet: This study analyzes the problem areas, such as a growing mutual distrust and diverging interests, in the Turkish-American relations on the basis of the changes taking place under both the Erdoğan and Obama periods in Turkish and American foreign affairs, particularly taking the latest developments in the Middle East into account. Its main argument is that further deterioration in the relationship was not avoided despite the model partnership presented as the new conceptual framework of the relations under Obama. The reasons underlying this are the Turkish attempts under Erdoğan to act more independently and to be more effective in the Middle East and the unwillingness of the US to endorse the new Turkish foreign policy vision. The study ends with both an overview of how both sides could find ways of halting the future imbroglios in the relationship and the propositions about the establishment of more constructive and reliable communication
