Özet: The banking sector, which has a great influence on the activities in the economy, has grown and developed very rapidly in our country following the restructuring program in 2002. While the total number of bank branches in Turkey was around 6,100 in 2004 this number nearly doubled to 11,200 in 2014. Banks are known to be affected by economic variables. This study examines how macroeconomic and demographic variables affect the changes in bank branch numbers. In this study, effect of macroeconomic and demographic variables on bank branch numbers investigated by using panel data from 2004 to 2014 for 81 city of Turkey. Result Show that Gross domestic product, Population, Loan utilization, Deposit interest rates and Tax incomes-Subsidies have been found to have a statistically significant effect on the change in the number of branches of banks. On the other hand, number of deposits have not had a statistically significant effect on the number of branches of banks.
