Özet: This study aims at obtaining the families of the families of children with special needs and of the parents who have consulted an expert for their children to be observed for some reasons or of the parents whose children have been observed, concerning their participation in the diagnostic process and their general beliefs about diagnosis. In this study, a face to face interview method and a semi-structured interview technique were used in order to obtain accurate data. The participants were the families of children with special needs and those who have consulted an expert for their children to be observed and were from the TRNC. In the analysis of the research data, a descriptive analysis approach was used. As a result of the interviews with families and considering the findings about the families’ participation in the diagnosis process, it was found that when the families recognised some inabilities in their children, they consulted a doctor; they took their children to a doctor due to convulsion in their children, late-talking and delayed development in children compared to their peers; the families did not prepare their children fort he assessment process; the children could not perform well enough during the assessment process; they believed this affected the performance of the studends during the assessment process and no measures were taken against this problem.
