Özet: In an environment in which the students’ interests and mental development are different, one of the means from which teachersbenefit are textbooks. In our country where the layers of Feudal-industry-information society are living nested, it is a great mistake to expect the students to be at the same readiness level. In this frame, despite the lack of other class materials, the textbooks possible to exist in all educational institutions are needed to have qualified physical, educational, visual, and language expression features. In this study, secondary school 6th grade Social Studies textbooks are investigated in terms of features of qualified physical, educational, visual and language-expression through a case study. As a result of investigations and interviews it was observed that in 6th grade Social Studies text books, there isn’t a preface describing how students will utilize the book, the content of it and etc., there aren’t any expressions of acquisitionat the beginning of units in which what is going to be taught is explained, there isn’t any summary at the end of the units and an index at the end of the book and a small atlas composed of useful historical-geographical maps, and subject explanations are insufficient. Within these results, some suggestions are made benefiting from the books in our country and other countries, teachers of social studies and teacher candidates in order for the present books to be converted into ideal social studies books.
