Özet: The primary purpose of the design field is to face the objective reality, discover the truths about existence, and establish new fictional truths within the new possibilities they contain. All design processes are in the form of an imitation, representation, or presentation of reality as a truth proposition. While searching for the truth, the design activity presents a fictional reality with its language and explains and suggests the reasons for the product’s existence. Truth for design is a function of the objectifying mind, presented as a proposition to the cognitivist subject rather than a rough imitation of what exists. This function causes the relationship between design discourses and the nature of reality to emerge as different attitudes under economic-social-political situations and conditions. Within the scope of this study, the concepts of reality and truth will be discussed in the context of design. In the following sections, the freedom and constraints that designers have in establishing truth and the roles and responsibilities they assume will be discussed. The study ends with determinations and evaluations about what the designers’ possible attitudes towards truth establishment might be and how they should be.
