Özet: Among the world’s legal systems, Roman law is an important school of law that still has an impact today. The slavery system, which existed in the First Age civilizations, has also found its place in Roman and Eastern Roman societies since the early ages. In this context, laws related to slavery take an important place in the Corpus of Roman law. It is possible to find information about the functioning of the slavery system in Rome and Eastern Rome, especially in the Codex Theodosianus, Corpus Iuris Civilis, and Ecloga. Although some new methods of liberation were included in the Corpus of Roman law after the adoption of Christianity, there was no change in the slavery system. In this article, we will chronologically focus on the change and transformation of the laws regarding slavery in Roman and Eastern Roman law in Late Antiquity.
