Özet: Memory is built by remembering and forgetting. Collective memory is formed in a specific context. One of the dimensions of this context is gender relations. Cinema plays an effective role in the construction of individual and social memory while depicting the dynamics of society. Language, music, fiction and narrative structure are the tools of this construction. Atıf Yılmaz is the first director that comes to mind on movies on women in Turkish cinema in the 1980s. The years when the director made his films are also important in terms of being the period when the women's movement began to rise. Considering the background mentioned, in this study, Adı Vasfiye and Aaahh Belinda directed by Atıf Yılmaz, in which memory plays a central role, were chosen as sample. In order to form a basis for the analysis of the films, memory, recollection and the relationship between memory and cinema are explained based on the literature. The films were analyzed by text analysis method to explain how memory illusions are constructed in the context of gender relations. As a result, the implication of memory illusions and memory construction in the stories of two different women was evaluated.
