Özet: Experimental studies on economic growth and NPLs reveal a negative relationship between economic growth and NPLs. That is why the outlook of the banking sector is closely followed by all economic units. One of the key indicators that shows banking sector’s stability and soundness is the change in the level of NPLs. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of new NPLs on the banking sector’s indicators such as profitability, equity, capital adequacy and new lending capacity. In our study, banking sector data as of September 2022 and regulations on capital adequacy are used. The results of the study show that there would be a decrease in equity by 3,5 percent, regulatory capital by 2,7 percent, capital adequacy ratio by 0,4 percentage point, new lending capacity by 3 percent if 1 percent of performing loans was deemed as NPL.
