Özet: With the intensive use of the concept of journalism in digital and its inclusion in this field, new journalism practices have emerged and journalism has found its place in social media platforms. In the context of, in this study, how the journalism phenomenon works in social media practices, how the social media usage patterns are and the use of the individual who is the reader of the news in this field are examined. In the study, seven social media platforms were examined and independent organizations, journalists and citizen journalists were taken as examples in these seven social media platforms. Content analysis method was used in the research and sample selection was made with purposeful sampling. In the article, only Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and WhatsApp, Instagram, Tiktok, Telegram were limited to social media platforms that were examined by content analysis method. The most important reason for this is according to data from We Are Social in 2020 be of they are the most well-known social media platforms in their field with a high number of active users. It has been observed how journalism practices work through the seven selected social media, and it has been observed that all of the social media platforms examined are used by journalism, especially alternative journalism. It has been seen that the most important reason for the use of social media in journalism is the desire for independent journalism.
