Özet: In this study, the effects of the level of antibiotic use on antibiotic resistance and foreign trade balance in Turkey and EU countries are evaluated. The findings indicated that antibiotic use in Turkey was higher than the EU average within the 2005-2015 period. Antibiotic resistance in Turkey, in parallel with the excess use of antibiotics, is also considerably high. In addition, using macro-level data, it was shown that antibiotic resistance in the countries may be related to changes in antibiotic use and to education level of the countries as well as to the level of antibiotic use. In the study, it was also exhibited that the high levels of antibiotic use in Turkey and in EU countries of which end-use antibiotics export performance is not satisfactory have an adverse effect on foreign trade balance.
