Özet: Background: Chronic kidney disease is one such debilitating disease often associated with other medical comorbidities and needing continued long term treatment. Depressive and anxiety symptoms are quite commonly reported in medical illness and CKD in particular but very few studies have focussed on these aspects in Indian population. Aim: The aim was to explore the depressive and anxiety symptoms in patients with chronic kidney disease. Methods: Present cross sectional study was performed on 120 patients with Chronic kidney disease attending Department of General Medicine of the tertiary care Medical College. The patients were assessed on Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale for presence of depressive and anxiety symptoms. Results: Clinically significant depressive and anxiety symptoms were present in 23.3% and 33.3% of the patients respectively. The total score of Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale had significant correlation with age, gender, occupation and dialysis. Conclusion: Patients with CKD have high depression and anxiety symptoms. Hence proper evaluation for anxiety and depressive symptoms and early interventions should be of paramount importance to improve the quality of life and favourable outcomes in these patients.
