Özet: Calotropis procera is widely distributed flowering plant found in India, the leaves, fruits, root and bark of the plant are known to have various medicinal properties. Guinea pig ileum is a sensitive and standard isolated tissue for evaluating the spasmodic and antispasmodic activity of organic substances. Hence guinea pig ileum was used to evaluate the spasmolytic activity of ethanolic extract of Calotropis procera. The 10ug/ml of extract inhibited the actions of histamine due to presence of calotropin like alkaloid. Thus our study showed that ethanol extract of Calotropis procera leaves produced an excellent spasmolytic effect on gastrointestinal smooth muscles (guinea pig ileum).
