Özet: In the globalising world,employment rate of professions is shaped in accordance with the supply-demand curve.Supply-demand curves of nursing in the world and in Turkey have been analysed in this study. Nursing is a healthcare discipline that is consisting of science and art. Florence Nightingale also known as The Lady with the Lamp (12 May 1820 – 13 August 1910) is the founder of modern nursing. In our counrty,the first nursing school was established under the auspices of Red Crescent Society in 1925.In 1960 the Ministry of Health began to establish Vocational Schools Of Health. The first nursing education in Higher Education began at Ege University in 1955.The Nursing Undergraduate Programme is included in total 96 units of higher education. Until 2010 77.813 students were enrolled in Medical Vocational High Schools in total and these schools graduated 61.733 students until 2010.In 2010-2011,7.734 students were enrolled in higher education institutions,the number of undergraduate students is 28.791 and the number of graduated students is 4.358.Nursing graduates are employed in public institutions,private sector and universities. The number of nurses that actively work in the Ministry of Health is 89.314,in university hospitals 17.530 and in private sector 18.138.There are 124.982 nurses who work actively in total.In Turkey,WHO European Zone Countries and in European Union member countries,the average number of nurses who work actively per 100.000 persons is 745.Turkey ranks last with 141 nurses in average. As a result; both in Turkey and around the world nurse supply-demand curve arises as “global nursing crisis”.
