Özet: This study was carried out to determine the effect of guidance, establishing ,after a miscarriage, the status of becoming pregnant of a woman having had a miscarriage and their knowledge about and behaviour towards family planning. The scope of the study includes 117 women who had unwillingly miscarriages between october-december 2004 at Şanlıurfa Maternity Hospital and who accepted to take part in the study. The questionaire form prepared by the researchers was applied with the technique of face to face interewiew.35 % of the women were determined to be unaware of any family planning method. It was found out that prior to the miscarriages 48.7% of the women had used some family planning method and that 98.2 of the women had applied the method for 1 year or more. Of the women, 61.4 % said that they had stopped the method to have a child. 43.6 of the women were said not to have planned the pregnancy,in other words, the pregnancies had occured unwillingly.the women expressed that, after the miscarriages, they had no intention of becoming pregnant again. But 53 % of them had no knowledge whatsoever about how long it would take them to become pregnant again after the miscarriage while only 5.1% answered:right after the miscarriage. The women were given comprehensive guidance by the researchers after the intervention. After the guidance, 38.6% declared that they desired pregnancy immediately whereas all of the women who wanted no more children reported that they would use some kind of family planning method
