Özet: Background: Intra-aortic balloon pump is the most commonly used mechanical circulatory support in the treatment of inadequate medical treatment outflow cardiac output syndrome. In recent years, developments in interventional cardiology because of the increasing population of patients undergoing coronary bypass surgery patients at risk are formed and intra-aortic balloon pump use is increasing. The purpose of this study was to investigate the affecting factors of the intra-aortic balloon surgery in patients underwent coronary bypass surgery. Methods: Three hundred and eleven patients underwent coronary bypass surgery from February 2003 to January 2010 in our clinic were retrospectively analyzed. Patients' demographic, surgical approach, together with intra-aortic balloon, and factors affecting utilization rates were compared statistically. Results: A 64.4% of the patients were men, and 35.6% were female. Age range was 37-78 years and mean age was 60.42% ± 11. Intra-aortic balloon was used in 14.50% of the patients whose average EuroSCORE were 6.08 ± 4.18. Mortality was seen in 66, 7% 30 cases of the patients. The age, gender, and the surgical approach to the use of intraaortic balloon were not statistically significant. However, in terms of prolonged cross-klemp, low ejection fraction, urgent operation, low effort capacity and EuroSCORE were found to be significant p < 0.05 .Conclusion: The last decade, developments in cardiology and cardiac surgery has expanded the boundaries of surgical indications, and this has enabled the ability to take risk patients for surgery. However, this situation has brought with it a high morbidity and mortality. As a result the importance of using intra-aortic balloon and ventricular assist devices will increase
