Özet: Backgrounds: Determining the attitudes of women towards family planning is of vital importance in planning the family planning services to be provided in the region. This study was conducted in order to determine the attitudes of women in Şanlıurfa towards family planning methods. Methods: The research is a descriptive study. Sample of the research consisted of 89 married women who can speak Turkish, resorted to the family planning polyclinic between October - December 2012. Data were collected through face-to-face interview method by using the question form and the Family Planning Attitude Scale (FPAS). Descriptive statistics, T test, Variance analysis, Mann Whitney U test and Kruskall Wallis analysis were used in the evaluation of the data. Results: It was determined that general FPAS score average of participating was 124.20 ± 27.34 of the women; 17-34 age group, social security, high levels of education were FPAS score average higher and this finding was statistically significant (p<0.05). Furthermore, number of pregnancies, number of children and abortions is lower in those with higher mean scores of FPAS and this difference was found to be statistically significant(p<0.05). Conclusions: Study was found that positive attitute of the women about family planning but was not desirable level. In order to turn this attitude into practice with high rate, family planning education and consultancy services must be planned and implemented.
