Özet: Background: To assess type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) impact on plasma fibrinogen levels Material and Methods: Our study group consisted of 50 patients with type diabetes and 50 healthy control groups who applied to the Internal Medicine Specialist Policlinic of Lütfi Kırdar Kartal Training and Research Hospital between 1998- and 1999. Intergroup analysis was performed by age-related correlation analysis, fibrinogen levels by Student-T, ANOVA test, and other variables by chi-square test. Results: Plasma fibrinogen level correlated positively with age (p = 0,005) but DM presence did not affect this condition. Mean plasma fibrinogen level was measured as 372,21±69,2 mg/dl in type 2 DM and 336,86 ± 59,92 mg/dl in the control group. This statistical significance was significant (p=0.005). Conclusion: Elevated plasma fibrinogen level is an independent risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD). Type 2 DM has an increased risk of CAD. Plasma fibrinogen levels also contribute to hemostatic abnormalities in this increased risk.
