Özet: Greenhouse effect is the main cause of global climate change and carbon dioxide has the biggest portion in greenhouse gases. Carbon dioxide sourced mainly from combustion of fossil fuels for energy production. According to strategic targets of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Sources, the portion of natural gas in electricity production will decrease from 43.8% to 38% while coal consumption increases two fold, till 2019. In this study, change of emissions with fuel types used for energy production was investigated and emission factors were calculated for the period of 2000-2014. Emission factor was decreased from 0.65 to 0.50 between 2000 and 2004, as a result of transition from coal to natural gas in electricity production. Then, it increased rapidly with increased coal consumption till 2008 and continued with fluctuations. While the emissions from all types of fuels decreased in European Countries, these increased 41% in Turkey between 2000 and 2013. In the future, greenhouse gas emissions from energy production will decrease according to strategic targets.
