Özet: Stereotypes developed by Yeşilçam under the influence of Hollywood melodramas have been considered in comparison with the stereotypes created by the first Turkish authors during the importation period of Western novel. The purpose of this study is to prove that both Yeşilçam directors and our first novelists has tend to constitute stereotypes due to socio-cultural, historical and economical differences between the West and the Turkish society and the Westernization process in Turkey. We have tried to analyse the stereotypes in the films of Yeşilçam produced during the above mentioned period and the stereotypes in our first novels within the framework of time, space and relations between persons. Though they were produced at different period of times, the characters tried to be created have resulted in stereotypes in both art forms due to the insufficient information about the backgrounds, environments and relations between characters and sub-characters
