Özet: The Kanaat Bookstore building, which was founded in 1896 on the slope of Bab-ı Ali, which is now known today as Ankara Caddesi, was closed in 1994. In 1996, the building was registered as a group II cultural asset that is required to be protected. It was decided to conserve the building by reconstructing it after a series of architectural, structural system and environmental impact assessments analysis. Renewal application was carried out with reconstruction projects that aimed updating of the building, rationalization of the use of the space, reinforcing the load bearing system and ensuring the integrity of the street silhouette. The building took place for many years in the cultural life of Cagaloglu slope which has come to the status of a commercial center nowadays. Today the building is conserved such that its architectural façade features is as original, its name “Kanaat Kitabevi” and the bookstore’s well known publication “Takvim-i Ragıp” is engraved on its front façade.
