Özet: Terrorism that has appeared in different formats over historical process has become the main security matter over the international field. The September 11 attack that was done to The World Trade Center and Pentagon has given a new dimesion to terrorist actions and has shown that terror can give great damages. With the means of globalism, terrorist organizations are causing great destruction easily and on a tight budget. The developments in communication technology, which is a result of globalism, help terror organizations to organize more easily and faster. Non-state actors just like state actors make propoganda to gain the attention of a particular mass. Terrorist organizations that take advantage of globalism use the new communication instruments and are active on social media platforms. The development of social media is seen as an easier way of propaganda and organizations have started to use this platform systematically as it has less state supervision and they can reach everybody much more easily. In this study, global terrorism and propaganda terminology will be explained first and then will be dwelled on the use of social media on terror propaganda. In this context, terrorist organizations’ active use of social media as a means of propaganda will be evaluated with examples. The social media platforms that are easier to access to the target group will be evaluated over the most frequently used applications. In the last part of the study, the effects and the results of the use of the new media platforms by terror organizations will be evaluated.
