Özet: Bribery, which means benefiting a person in the form of money or property in order to gain a job or gain through illegitimate or illegal means, is an important phenomenon seen in many societies or states in the historical process. Bribery cases seen in many Turkish states were also experienced intensely in the Timurid state, which ruled a wide geography. The bribery, which were directly proportional to the expansion and growth of the state in the Timurids, were more common among the viziers, the highest class of the financial bureaucracy. Viziers were committing corruption by unfairly taking bribes or collecting illegal extortion. However, bureaucrats who took bribes were first tried and dismissed from their duties. Later, those whose crimes of bribery and corruption were finalized were either killed or imprisoned. This study identifies the bureaucrats who committed bribery and corruption in the Timurid state and examines the penalties they received as a result of these actions.
