Özet: Objective: This study was conducted to determine the roles and functions of school nurses working in private schools in Ankara city center. Material and Method: The data of the descriptive study was collected between November 2019 and March 2020. The study was carried out on 28 school nurses working in private schools in the central districts of Ankara province, which are stated to have special status. In the study, a questionnaire form consisting of 54 questions was used as a data collection tool. Results: It was determined that the nurses participating in the study had a mean age of 42.5 ± 8.8 years, they worked as a school health nurse for 5.6±4.8 years, the number of students applying to the health unit in one day was 49.2±29.1. It was determined that 64.3% of the nurses received high school / associate degree education, 85.7% did not receive pre-education in this field, 78.6% preferred to work as a school nurse because the working conditions were suitable, and all of them improved themselves with their professional experiences. It was determined that 35.7% of the student ratio (1:750) to whom employed nurses are served is not suitable at the school. Among the functions performed by school nurses, it is seen that the most frequent school admission examination (1.81±0.3), control of emergencies (1.75±0.25), the least school-environmental health (0.71±0.71), and research (1.07±0.90). It has been determined that there is a negative relationship between school nurses' average age and school admission examination, advocate and research roles; the working years of nurses and their of the research role (p <0.05). It has been determined that there is a positive relationship between the working hours of nurses and the increase in the number of staff working in the school health unit and some roles fulfilled by nurses (p <0.05). Conclusion: It is considered that there is a need to register the nurses working in the current field of school health and to organize a school health nursing certificate program.
