Özet: Iron deficiency Anemia (IDA) is one of the most frequent complications related to pregnancy. In Yemen, there is a lack of current information regarding prevalence and predictors of IDA. Objectives: The study aimed to determine the prevalence of IDA and associated risk factors among pregnant women in Dhamar city, Yemen. Methods: A cross-sectional study conducted in Dhamar city ofYemen from February to May 2018, and involved 200 pregnant women attending to Antenatal Clinic (ANC) at Red Crescent Society and Reproductive Health Center. All samples collected and subjected for measuring of hemoglobin (Hb),serum iron concentrationand other hematological tests. The data collected using structured questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS program. Results: The prevalence of anemia due to low concentration of Hband serum iron amongpregnant women was 12.5% and 54.5% respectively. Anemia was significantly higher among those who are at the second trimester of pregnancy (OR= 9.839, 95CI=1.881-51.46, X2= 6.9622, P=0.007). IDA was the highest amongpregnant women who aged between 20-30 years old with no statistically significant (P= 0.227). Conclusion: The study showed a high rate of IDA among Yemeni pregnant women (54.5%).The effective programs regarding iron supplementation and family planning services improvement should be establishedto decrease the size of problem.
