Özet: Background: High lipid levels in the plasma can increase the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis.Aim of the study:This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of ginseng, rishi and simvastatin in lowering blood lipid profiles in male rabbits fed on high fat-diet.Material and method:Rabbits were divided into six groups (n=6), negative control (NC) were non-received by oral and positive control (PC) were received by oral physiologic saline 5 ml/day. The first group (G1) wastreated by oral Turkish Panax Ginseng 400 mg/kg body weight/day, second group (G2) were treated by oral Ganoderma lucidum powder 140 mg/kg body weight/day. The third group (G3) wastreated by oral Panax ginseng and Ganoderma lucidum in a similar dose wasadministered in a combination. The fourth group (G4) were treated by oral with Simvastatin 10 mg/kg body weight/day.Result:all tested agentsinduce a reduction in serum lipid profiles (TC, TG, HDL, LDL, VLDL) to similar levels. Similarly, all agent-induced reduction in relative neutrophil count. Ginseng induced decrease while rishi and simvastatin induced an increase in relative monocyte count.The relative eosinophil count was also significantly increasedin response to simvastatin treatment .Conclusion:all tested herbal agents resemble simvastatin in their effects on serum levels of cholesterol, TG, HDL, LDL, VLDL. Furthermore, the used anti-cholesterol agents exert a parallel effect on levels of neutrophil, basophil and platelet count as well as their anti-inflammatory effect; while differentin their effect on total WBC and eosinophil.
