Özet: The development of tourism movements continues in line with the development of transportation facilities. Destinations, which have touristic density in Turkey, have reached their present position, especially as a result of improvements in air transport infrastructure and increased passenger capacities. In Tokat, which wants to have a say in tourism, thanks to the modern and high passenger capacity New Tokat Airport, which will open in 2021, a great development is planned in the transportation infrastructure. The purpose of this study is to investigate and evaluate the role of New Tokat Airport in regional tourism movements, mainly within the scope of hometown visits. Hometown visits constitute a very important resource in terms of tourism and economy for regions such as Tokat that have lost population due to intense immigration. Based on this point, the population of research consists of approximately 600 thousand people of Tokat origin living in Istanbul, Kocaeli and Tekirdağ provinces. The reason why people living in these provinces are chosen as the research population is that they can actively use the airline to visit Tokat. In this regard, an online survey was conducted with the participation of 1438 people as a sample in October-November 2019. According to the findings obtained from the survey data, it was revealed that the participants in the research thought of visiting Tokat more frequently after the new airport was opened. In addition, the participants of the research, plan to use the airline predominantly, after the opening of the new airport for their Tokat travels. On the other hand, most of the people participating to the research think that the New Tokat Airport will positively affect the tourism sector in Tokat.
