Özet: The present study was planned to study effects of the anaesthesia approaches for the cesarean births in the post-partum period. This study was comparative and cross-sectional type and it was carried out with mothers and their new-born babies between January 2014 and June 2014 in one of the gynecology clinics in Istanbul. The sample groups were consisted of 234 women and their 234 new borns.Seven data collection instruments were used in this study: “Identifier Information Form”, “Parenthood Behavior Scales in the Post-Partum Period”, “Antenatal Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Short Form Scale,”, “APGAR”, and “Scale of the Visual Analogue”. The findings in the general anesthesia and local anesthesia groups were similar with respect to age, profession, education, marriage durations, economic status and number of pregnancy birth. Unlike to local anesthesia groups, women who were applied to the general anesthesia had some problems such as delaying oral feeding and to face with their new borns, pain and nausea. In the local anesthesia groups; General Comfort Questionary Postpartum Parenting Behavior Scale and Antenatal Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Short Form Scale data collections were higher.There was a considerable improvement in 5 minutes of Apgar Test and downturn of weight loss in the first and second day of the post-partum period in the local anesthesia groups either. In conclusion, this study showed that general anesthesia affected mother and her newborn’s comfort and adaptation negatively unlike to local anesthesia in the cesarean surgeries.
