Özet: The aim of this study is to discuss what kind of problems refugees face during their journey full of hope with the help of the film The Other Side of Hope (Toivon tuolla puolen, 2017) by Aki Kaurismäki. For this reason, firstly terms about immigration, migration, migration-cinema relationship and general knowledge about Aki Kaurismäki cinema have been included. Then, the film which has been included to the sample and it has been analyzed within the scope of Barthes’s semiological method; the indicators in the film has been evaluated in terms of indicative-indicated relationship and it has been tried to be understood how the problems of the refugees are reflected. As a result of this analysis, it has been observed that Kaurismäki, who is known with the humanistic attitude for the refugees and immigrants in Finland, has emphasized that there should always be hope for both refugees and refugee problem.
