Özet: Having proclaimed independence following the disintegration of the Soviet Socialist Republics, Azerbaijan, has had to face a number of serious foreign policy problems, the most important of which is the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. As a result of the armed conflicts which started as of 1989 and lasted until 1994, many people were killed or injured and thousands of people were displaced. Twenty percent of the Azerbaijani territory was occupied by Armenia. Indeed, the Nagorno-Karabakh issue is one of the most serious international conflicts that have remained unresolved as the diplomatic efforts and negotiations geared towards resolving the conflict over the last 20 years have proved futile. It has been impossible to even find a common ground between the parties for resolution. Under such circumstances of political deadlock, it is witnessed that high intensity armed conflicts occur due to the violation of ceasefire. In this study, the arising of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue is analyzed and the approaches of the dailies Milliyet, Hürriyet and Sabah to the issue over the period 1991-2016 are presented on the basis of the published news.
