Özet: Village chambers are examples of civil architecture in which the villagers come together for different purposes such as weddings, festivals, funerals, soldier ceremonies and some other educational or sociocultural purposes. These chambers are also used to meet needs of the villages’ visitors. The village chambers were built by wealthy people in the village and they have played an important role in the continuation of social and cultural life in villages. In this article, village chambers of the villages Koyuncu, Çallı, Söğütçük and Gözmen in Ilbeyli, Sivas that are parts of our cultural heritage are examined within the discipline of art history. The chambers are usually made from stones with single floor and they consist of a main room and auxiliary units. Chambers are built independently from houses and also the auxiliary units of the chambers are next to the main rooms. These rooms which have striking traditional features and mostly wooden, hand carved and plaster work ornaments are very rich in terms of ceiling ornaments. The chambers are widespread in especially Middle Anatolian and also it is possible to see the examples of these chambers with their traditional features in Ilbeyli sub-district. In the past, each village had a few chambers, however, some of them are destroyed and some are in danger of extinction in our day. Having been used for their real purposes until the first half of 20th century, the chambers continues to partially serve their basic purposes although they lose their accommodation purposes because of advanced technology and transportation nowadays.
