Özet: Obesity, which causes serious morbidity and mortality, negatively affects the quality of life. Its frequency is gradually increasing. The false perceptions of overweight people about body weights can cause unhealthy attitudes and behaviors. Our aim in the study is to determine obesity, body weight perception, and related factors in people aged 15 and over living in a district. The cross-sectional research carried out in the district of Ağaçören in Aksaray. It was realized with the participation of 418 people. The questionnaire of the research was applied face to face by visiting houses. Body mass indexes were calculated by measuring the height and body weight of the participants. It was observed that 34.9% of the participants were pre-obese and 33.8% were obese. Body weight perception of 87.5% of the thins, 84.6% of the normal category, 30.8% of the pre-obese, and 8.5% of the obese were correct. There were statistically significant differences in prevalance of obesity between groups of age, gender, marital status, educational background, employment status, and monthly income (p<0.05). It is seen that awareness of obesity in society should start as soon as possible. All individuals should be evaluated in terms of obesity and risk factors, their awareness could be increased through health education.
