Özet: Geographical features and climate characteristics of Turkey can vary considerably between short distances. These changes not only constitute the source of the rich species diversity in the plant flora of the country but also cause differentiation in the selection of species among the nearby regions. The main material of the study is herbal material in recreational and open green areas in the city of Kars. In order to determine the opinions and preferences of the public about existing outdoor plants, a survey was conducted with 368 people and analyzed in the SPSS program. According to the results of the analysis, almost all of the participants stated that the green areas and vegetal material in the city were insufficient. The most preferred combination of people in plants to be used in green areas has been 'Wide and coniferous plants + shrubs and shrubs + groundcovers'. When the characteristics of the plants requested by the participants are examined; all green, round-shaped plants that can reduce air and noise pollution have come to the fore. In addition, the extent to which the demographic characteristics of the people caused differentiation in herbal material requests was examined.
