Surgical Therapy in Asymptomatic Carotid Stenosis and the Results

Özet: in vascular surgery clinic of Marienhospital Hamm-Germany 297 carotid endarterectomy in 275 asemptomatic patients were opereted. Perioperative mortality was not found. in three cases temporary nerurological deficits were seen, though they disappeared without leaving any seguelae. Ali cases were given Aspirin 100 to 500 mg/day postoperatively. The Meaning of follow-up was 40,3 months, between 3 and 60 months. in follow-up 31 deaths was seen. Of the 31 deaths the reason was myocardial infarction in 18 cases, malignancy in 8, other causes in 3. in two cases (one case ipsilateral. one case contralateral), the reason was the stroke. in conclusion, the CEA is needed in cases with 70 % carotid stenosis and over, ulcerated and soft plaque in the asemptomatic patients.
