Özet: This study was planned to the effects of retrograde cerebral perfusion (RCP) on cerebral functions during total cir culatory arrest. Six dogs were included in this experiment. RCP was used to protect the cerebral functions during 15 minutes of normothermic total circulatory arrest. During RCP oxygen saturation in the superior vena cava blood raised to 92±8 % whereas the oxygen saturation of blood returning from the aorta dropped to 45±8 % . Perfusion pressure during RCP rose to 28±5 mmHg. One dog could not wean from the cardiopulmonary bypass. The remaining 5 dogs were conscious 12 hours after the operation. in the light of this experiment, we concluded that the RCP may be an alternative to the total circulatory arrest during aortic arch repair.
