Özet: Between 19Sl0-199532 patients underwent carotid endarterectomy. The results of group one which consist of 22 patients who were operated without using EEG monitoring between 1990-1993, and group two which consist of 10 patients who were operated. in the first group shunt was used in 8 patients who had bilateral coratid artery stenosis, one of these patients had stroke. in the second group two patients with bilateral carotid artery stenosis had EEG changes consist with severe ischemia after, common carotid artery had been clamped, and intralumi­ nal shunt was used. There is no mortality in both group.s. in the first group, overall stroke rate is 4.5 %, stroke rate in patients with shunts is 12 %. in the second group none of the patients had stroke. Monitoring of brain activity and selective shunt application during carotid endarerectomy gives surgeon a comfortable working condition and prevents complications of unnecessary shunt application.
