Özet: Coiling or kinking of the extracranial carotid artery are seen in 1O to 16 percent of the angiographies obtained tor miscellaneous causes. The role of th se, in the etiology of the cerebrovascular diseases are not established, but, in patients with symptomatic carotid stenosis, they must be corrected during the carotid endarterectomy. in our clinic, we have performed eversion endarterectomy and shortening procedure of the internal carotid in 7 patients with symptomatic carotid stenosis and kinking. There were no differences regarding to the clamping time, operation time or in the use of shunt, between this technique and conventional carotid endarterectomy. Although our number is small, other series in the literature suggest that there are also no statistical differences between the perioperative stroke rates of these two techniques. in addition, comparing with conventional carotid endarterectomy and patch an gioplasty, better results are reported in the terms of the late restenosis with eversion endarterectomy.
