Özet: Hemodialysis is stili popular for the regulation of fluid and electrolyte balance in chronic renal failure because the donor organs are scarce in o ur country, and some patients are not approriate for transplantation . in this study the effectiveness and complicatiorıs of arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs), had been performed for vascu lar access in patients with chronic renal failure requiring hemodialysis, were studied . in 891 patients, 1871 AVF were carri ed out in the !ast 20 years. Of th ese AVFs, 1490 were radiocephalic 336 brachiocephalic, 1O saphenous loop , 8 dorsalis ped is to saphenous, and 27 were prosthetic with polytetrafloroethylene (PTFE). in early period (i.e., in the first 30 days) 117 (6.4%) AVF failure in connection with thrombosis, bleeding and infection were no ted. in late period (after 30 days) 980 (52.3%) AVF failure occured due to infection, trombosis, venous anurysm, and steal syn drome. The rate of patency of one-year in radiocephalic AVFs was 72 percent and of 2-yearswas 65% . These rate s in PTFE grafts were 62% and 52%, respectively. AVFs were performed a vas cular acces for hemodialysis, with minimal morbidity due to graft failure and witho ut mortality are an ideal vay for problem -free life until being performed renal transpl antation in patients with chronic renal failure.
