Özet: Our initial experience with spiral CT angiography The purpose of this study was to investigate the diagnostic value of spiral CT angiography (CTA) in carotid rystenosis and to compare the results with digital subtraction angiography (DSA) findings. Material and Methods: Between December 1999 and May 2000, spiral CTA was performed in ten patients for evaluation extracranial carotid artery disease. There were six females (60 %) and four males (40 %) with an age range 62-74 (average: 69.1 years). Degree of stenosis has been classified according to the criteria established by The It American Carotid Endarterectomy Trial (NASCET). Results: One case has been excluded from the study due to severe motion and swallowing artifacts resulting in suboptimal CTA. >70 % stenosis has been detected in spiral CTA in nine cases with symptomatic cerebrovascular di-Ape and severe stenosis on Doppler sonography. Degree of stenosis In the Internal carotid artery was in precise Illgreement with DSA findings in all of these cases. In one case with history transient ischemic attack, minor stenosis been detected in spiral CTA and conservative follow up has been agreed upon. Oonciusion: Spiral CTA is a sate and promising modality in the evaluation of carotid artery stenosis with its multiplenar Imaging capability, superior anatomic detail and ability to detect calcifications and exact degree of stenosis. On to Other hand, the results need to be supported with data from larger series.
