Özet: Objective: Localized thrombus formation in denuded vessel is a worsened factor of surgical results. This has been an unsolved problem, although many studies were performed to date. In this study, we have aimed to evaluate profibrinolytic effect of streptokinase intimal denudation model. Methods: An experimental intimal denudation was performed in both femoral arteries of 18 dogs. Intraluminally streptokinase solution was applied in study sides and saline solution was applied in control sides of each dog. After three weeks, a bilateral femoral arteriography was obtained and histological examination of denuded segments was performed. Results: On arteriographic examination, significantly increased luminal stenosis were seen in control segments (37.8 % ± 2.8) comparing the study ones (12.2 % ± 9.7) (p<0.05). On histological examination, obvious organized thrombus formation was seen in all of the arterial lumen on the control side whereas there is no thrombus on the study side except six dogs with minimal luminal thrombosis. Conclusion: We thought that intraluminal streptokinase application would be effective on increasing patency rates in procedures causing endothelial denudation. (Turkish J Vasc Surg 2003;12(3): 21-25)
