Özet: The incidence of chronic venous insufficiency that has a spectrum from telangiectasies to varicose veins increases with age and is seen in 10-20% of the population averagely. Saphenous vein stripping was first found its clinical application in the first years of 20th century for the treatment of this problem and currently it is widely used but sclerotherapy is still an alternative for the treatment of vessel with a small diameter. It was first performed by Orbach in 1944 using air block technique, and it"s been started to applied to the large diameter veins like saphenous vein in foam form with ultrasonographic guidance. In this article we present the current situation of sclerotherapy, its area of use, the application methods and complications in the treatment of lower extremity varicose veins.
