Özet: Purpose: We tried to evaluate retrospectively the neurological outcome of combined coronary bypass and carotid endarterectomy surgery. Methods: From August 1998 to November 2004, consecutive 34 patients who had a combined carotid endarterectomy and coronary bypass surgery were retrospectively investigated for neurological outcomes at department of Cardiovascular Surgery in V.K.V American Hospital. 28 of them were male,6 were female. The average age of the patients was 66.6(range 78-57). The indication for combined procedures were the need for CABG and internal carotid artery stenosis of 70% or more, with or without contralateral disease or an ulcerated internal carotid lesion. All the procedures were performed under general anesthesia by the aid of extracorperal circulation. In 8 patients intraluminal shunt was used. Results: Two of the patients suffered an ipsilateral transient ischemic attack ;recovered completely. One patient had MI and died within 30 days. None of the other patients had cerebrovascular events occured within 30 days of surgery. Conculusion: Concominant carotid endarterectomy and coronary artery bypass is a safe and effective procedure in patients with significant coronary and carotid artery disease.
