Özet: Purpose: We purposed to evaluate the management and morbidity and mortality in the penetrating carotid artery trauma patients. Method: Between 1990-2006, 7 patients who admitted to hospital by penetrating carotid artery trauma were evaluated preoperatively and postoperative mortality-morbidity results retrospectively. Results: Five of seven patients with penetrating carotid artery injury were operated urgently without making further diagnostic procedure due to hemodynamic pre-shock situation of patients. One patient was admitted to hospital in condition of hypovolemichypotensive shock and this patient was lost at postoperative 5th day due to multiorgan failure. Beside this patient, another one who had gun-shoot was lost at postoperative 6th day due to neurologic deficit. Other, five patients were discharged from the hospital by complete recovery. Our total mortality was 28% and also total neurologic event ratio was 28%. Conclusion: Penetrating carotid artery pathology has a hyperacute condition and mostly needs acute surgical intervention. For diagnosis of the pathology, most important tools are anamnesis and remembering the penetrating carotid artery trauma. Even if the hemodynamic parameters of patients allow for further diagnostic evaluations, direct urgent surgical intervention generally required for these patients.
