Özet: Objective: Aneurysms of the abdominal aorta are still potentially life-threatening situations. The conventional operation is still associated with morbidity. Endovascular stent graft repair offers an alternative to conventional operation for management of these aortic diseases. Our aim was to report our experience with endovascular stent graft repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms. Material and Methods: Between 2000-2010, 54 patients (age 55-74 years) with a diagnosis of abdominal aortic anurysm were evaluated retrospectively. Two patient populations were formed as Group 1 (endovascular stent graft, 26 patients) and group 2 (open surgery, 28 patients). Operation time, intensive care unit and hospital stay period, and reintervention rates were compared. Results: Mean age of the patients were 64 years. In all patients, stent graft was deployed in desired positions. There was no conversion to open surgery. Operation time, intensive care and hospital stay time and need for inotrop drugs were significantly higher in open surgery group. In the follow up period, endoleak rate in group 1 was 19.2% and the reintervention rate was significantly higher in endovascular aortic repair group. Mean follow up time was 24.1±5.4 months. Conclusion: Endovascular stent graft placement is a feasible and effective approach in the treatment of patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms. The endoluminal approach can avoid the major trauma of surgical therapy. Technical equipment, sufficient staff in different departments are mandatory for success in both pre- and postprocedure periods. However the long term results will determine the future of this treatment despite the encouraging short and mid-term results.
