Özet: Objective: Varicose veins are described as expansion, extension and tortuous shaped leg veins. Stripping, radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) are the invasive treatment of varicose veins. We retrospectively analyzed and compared endovenous ablation therapy for its efficacy and postoperative complications on 585 patients in our clinic. Material and Methods: We performed RFA to 337 patients and EVLA to 228 patients in our clinic between July 2012 and January 2015, and collected 6-month patient data retrospectively. Color Doppler ultrasonograhy results were used to analyze severity of the disease, and saphenous vein diameter before decision for surgery. Results: All patients that were scheduled for ablation were symptomatic. All 585 patients (100%) had reflux as the pathophysiological mechanism. Almost all of the patients had bruising and tenderness at postoperative week 1 visit. RFA and EVLA groups did not show any significant difference for postoperative complications (p>0.05). Most of the patients did not have any flow on Doppler USG after 6 months (93.7% in RF and 92.3% in EVLA groups). Conclusion: RFA and EVLA were compared in terms of postoperative complications as well as the success rates of the methods at the end of 6 months. There was no statistically significant difference between them. We suppose that both methods can be used safely in suitable patients.
