Özet: The aim of this study is to examine the image of a Turkish woman in Bulgaria over the centuries. The sisters, daughters, spouses of the Ottoman sultans are mentioned in the Ottoman sources. Some of them have been closely related to Bulgaria's geography and have established foundations here. As a matter of fact, it is possible to follow the names of them in the Ottoman sources and to get information about the foundations they have established. Women representatives of Mihaloğulları family also set up foundations and devoted themselves to charity work. We find in the Balkans not only men but also women-dervishes as the pioneers of Islamization and Turkishization. Among these we should not forget Kızana Sultan and Fatma Ana, the daughter of Elmalı Baba. In addition, Zahide Ana, who gave birth to a pole like Demir Baba, is also important for the image of Turkish women in Bulgaria. In the 17th and 18th centuries, we reach the image of a Turkish woman who likes to read and is a book owner in Bulgaria. Migrations from the second half of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century has challenged the Turkish woman in Bulgaria with difficulties. The Turkish woman has lost her husband and children in the fronts and during the migrations. In the communist era, we come accross a Turkish woman who is working, studying, struggling for her children without being tired of her life. In some arts and sciences, well-known names took their place. Turkish woman became artist, doctor, teacher. In 1984-1985 during the campaign of the change of Turkish names with Bulgarian ones and after, fighting Turkish woman came to the fore. Finally, we will speak about the women who have come to Turkey in 1989 and who have gained a significant place in society and earned respectable professions. In this study, the formation of the image of Turkish women who left their mark on the Bulgarian geography from the Ottoman period to the present will be examined.
