Özet: This research, investigating a columnist in terms of his choice of content and range of subject, takes as its research subject the writings of the long-term columnist Ekrem Dumanlı. By covering his columns on the newspaper Zaman from 2001 to 2008, it is elaborated that what kind of point of view he held for any given subjects. The research, which is done by dividing into subjects and using the subheadings of discourse analysis, exposes the columnist’s thought climate, his position in the face of different situations, his sensibilities, his inclinations for what is recent and the changes he went possibly through. In conclusion, this research exposes that a will reflecting on Ekrem Dumanlı’s style and content follows a trajectory in parallel with the political, economical, social and cultural changes that Turkey was going through, and at the same time it also exposes that there are different dynamics giving directions to Dumanlı’s writings. Furthermore, It elaborateson that the columnist used strategic language usages and different experiments in a way empowering the strength of the writings.
