Özet: The main problématique of this article is to discuss the communication right in the context of rights through the axis of class conflict, thus as a practice of class struggle. The basic assumption here is that the issue of rights which underlie the understanding of the communication right today has emerged as one of the main elements of the agenda of class struggle and in this extent, the practices of the communication right carries class content as well. This situation can be observed in many fields ranging from the organization of the communication arena in favour of capital to its actors, from demands to practices of struggle. The fact that communication, which inherently has a collective and anonymous structure, is that much encompassed by capital and even re-determined by it (along with all its structures, means and relations), inevitably places communication within social struggle and puts defining communication as a right and demanding it onto the agenda. The concept of “communication right” takes shape as a line of struggle against the capitalist social structure which, in unequal, undemocratic and capital-oriented terms, prevents communication, which is a collective activity, from being a right. Thus, the purpose of this article is to put forth why and how the ongoing struggle for rights has to be evaluated within the context of class struggle and demonstrate the characteristics of the debate of the communication right in this context. In this way, it will be possible to inquire into how this “communication right” can be taken up as part of the agenda of class struggle in neoliberal times.
