Özet: Turgut Özal, the eighth President of Turkey, is one of the most important figures of Turkish political life and foreign policy. after the military coup of September 12, 1980, Özal, who joıned the elections held on 6 November 1983 with Motherland Party, became the ruler party and caused many important economic and political changes in Turkey. Turkey-EU relations, which came to a standstill after the military coup of September 12, 1980 started to revive under Özal. Özal, who prioritizes economic and commercial relations with EU, has developed a foreign policy on developing relations with the Western countries. In this context, on April 14, 1987 he was granted full membership to the EU. However, this is based on national interest rather than Western-style foreign policy
